EffervescenceA Poem by Echo086
Love's pain is unfathomable
Until one feels it. From then on, it is unmistakable An unwanted companion A constant interloper A dull sting, a permanent twinge You'd give anything "Anything" To stop feeling it. But it doesn't work, does it? You smell her hair, hear her laugh It is unending, torturous. Reminders persist, twist you, turn you. Does she love you? Did she love you? Who does she think of, when her eyes give in to slumber? You pray it's you. It isn't. Such is love. Constant pain, brief mitigation A struggle with the self to beat back the doubt. A challenge to oneself to bring another broken person into an already broken life. Hoping for the best, Telling yourself to prepare for the worst, But knowing you can never be ready. It is the great unattainable. It is happiness incarnate. Yet it is fleeting. Effervescent, But transient. © 2014 Echo086 |
