Somehow

Somehow

A Poem by Echo086

Somehow
I still miss you

The fights don't matter.
The pain doesn't matter.
The neglect doesn't matter.
Nothing matters.

Well, you matter.
You're all that matters

I think of the nights
Passion running thick as a cloud of smoke,
Choking until all we could muster were moans and whimpers of ecstasy.
My name, whispered to the night like the greatest secret.
No one could make you feel that.
But me,
I could.

I think of the days spent together
Companions on a journey, partners in crime.
Before the end, we would do anything
I'd ask if you wanted to fly to the moon.
All you'd say was "when do we leave?"
We were in love.

I think of the quiet nights.
No cries, no smoke, just you and I
Pieces of one whole.
Entwined, not in lust, but in love.
Inseparable as mountains.

Now we are separated by hate,
By sadness.

But then, in that moment.
That moment that haunts and tears at me.
In that moment,
We were in love.

Beautiful. I find myself empathising with the pain that the narrative voice is feeling. Really enjoyed this:)
