Eros and Other LoveA Poem by EarthriseTo those who have lost love and lovers
No words can explain
The way that your name Fills my heart with love. But I can't take your embrace. It makes me feel strange. I don't think I'm good enough. You tell me never to fear. You're willing to hear All these thoughts that plague my mind. But when I feel your touch, I know you're worth too much. I could never make you mine. I do admire the stars, So fine from afar, But I dare not try to touch. Those things heavenly Want nothing from me, A creature born and bred in muck. I'm so full of want. My fire burns hot, And my heart, it brims with zeal. But my mind stays in check. It's holding me back From what I'm unworthy to feel. Oh, will I find a starlight lover? Can you bring warmth to my soul? Will I find a hand to hold mine? Could you ever make me whole? I remember you beside me, When they raised me, when we played. The only thing that I could wish for Is, my darling, that you'd stayed. I gaze upon the midday sky now, Wond'ring if you'll come at dusk. If tonight you come to see me, Condescend your gentle touch.
