The Steps to Life

The Steps to Life

A Poem by Earl Musick J

The dark circled around
life could not be found
he fell to the ground
and knew He was around;

Darker and darker the shadow rose
little by litte he did not know,
step by step he was as cold as snow
trying to find his way to go;

Day by day he lost his sight
stronger and stronger he tried to fight
trying to figure the wrong from right,
then fell and lost his sight;

In the dirt on his shirt
he knew he could not give up,
crawling and crawling is all he could do
then he came upon His shoes;

He could feel the grip of His hands
felt his soul raise to the sky,
opened his eyes saw the sand go by,
then looked up and saw God in sight;

Held in His arms traveling in His steps,
he laid to rest upon His chest.

The imagery is really nice in this one. Though I don't really like how the first few paragraphs (not sure that's the right term) rhyme so well and then the last ones don't. I have a really tough time rhyming, so I can understand...but it doesn't flow as well as it could if it was all rhyming or all not rhyming. If that makes any sense. Otherwise it's really beautiful.
