In The Thick Of ThingsA Poem by Earl SchumackerSo many stories in the forest yet untoldIn The Thick Of Things
Evergreens clasp the grounded earth Roots dig in to hold firm their homes Deep enough to keep them in one place At rest, rocks know they are alone As cold solids not going anywhere
The Forest fullness hides the wild Hungry animals awake, instincts on display Hunting for whatever comes their way Bunnies sense the danger, wriggle noses They are not afraid to run away Stealth gives them confidence to escape
Shadowed there by sins they have committed Wolves howl at the moon at midnight Having nothing better to do
It is the humble mushroom pondering With caps intact, with spongy stems at tilt Side by side below the evergreens Just sitting there and just as wild growing © 2019 Earl Schumacker |
