Hollywood

A Poem by Earl Schumacker
"

The audacious audition criteria

"

Hollywood

The part calls for someone not you
Welcome to the audition. Sit down
We are almost through
It is a feature film about the future
You are both short and tall Mr. Smith
How do you do that?
I'm afraid you are too medium too
That won't do
Media or mediocracy are not the issue
No race, color, creed or people needed
The scenes require a new special look
The absence of you for starters
Tell me Mr. Smith why did you apply?
Is it for pride, glory, money and fame
To be on the map? Pretty girls perhaps?
This is Hollywood
What is your story? Why did you come?
We were looking for something less you
More along the lines of silver machinery
Listen. I'm busy. My people will call yours
We'll do lunch shortly for sure or maybe
Do you get the picture Mr. Smith?
Sorry. It's taken by a robot with connections
Electrical components are the in thing
I would show you the door
But my time is precious
You look like a smart fellow
Good day. See you again...never
