The operative word here is "Had"

Mary Had a Little Lamb

Mary had a little lamb

Its fleece was white as snow

After the school incident

She turned it into stew

Rules are rules

No sheep in school

Bring on Humpty Dumpty

To see what we can do

The thing is eggs are delicious

And that's the truth

Roses are red violets are blue

We can't eat them

So what's the use

What else is new

Mary had a little lamb

She no longer has it

It became a hearty meal and that's a fact

She could have had a lamb sandwich with salad

There is no reason why in nursery rhymes

Not this time

reading your poem brings back the nursery rhymes but no longer with an ideal ending but rather a realistic one.. nice way to write this kind of stuff and what more can i say but life is indeed full of ironies

Hi Sette, It is nice to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure Mary and her lamb are doing just fine. We don't eat our friends, our pets, our family members. Lamb sandwiches and stews are out of the question. If know my Mary, she is not quite contrary, (That's another matter and another Mary.) Our Mary with the lamb is most likely a vegetarian. However beautiful and adorable those little lambs are, at the end of the day they become food. I am a hypocrite when it comes to animals. I adore them, but eat them as well. Having said that, I won't go to a butcher I will only purchase meat ready packed from a supermarket because I don't want to be reminded! Perhaps it's time for nurse rhymes to change Earl.

Hi Chris, Thanks for your comments. This is something silly that I whipped up in the middle of the night. Many years ago I visited a cattle farm. After looking those poor animals in the eyes I could not eat meat for a week but I sure do love a well done hamburger or steak. Take care. Earl

I can understand your views after visiting the cattle farm. I have a strong affinity with animals and I really should have given up eating meat a long time ago. Trouble is, I do enjoy the taste. Hope you are OK Earl.
