VanishedA Poem by Earl SchumackerHidden love in the wildernessVanished Startled by the door knock thud Boy and girl cling to each other tight Intruders will have to wait or go away Secrets must be kept safe Lovers smile with indifference Must be some thing other than a sound Off and outer in the distance heard Innocence is so romantically delightful Remote as ignorance is to bliss Should interruptions be tolerated in the wild Love is too important they surmise Eyes wide opened by sun light Sounds echo again but louder By brass against aged wood In the blink of an eye lovers rise Beneath the hollow hidden shed Under so much green covered canopy So thick it can not be seen The bed is safer than you think Some intruder knocks again Determined to get in Locks were made for honest people Invaders will have to wait or go away Secrets must be kept safe As they vanish in the sheets Dismiss the intrusion as an illusion Something wild, strange to nature Love is more important than the truth As wet as rain that came and went
