Love And DeathA Poem by Earl SchumackerLoves River Runs Soul DeepLove And Death
Take a deep breath before you leap Love and death are locked in an embrace Fall off the cliff together happily ever after Roll off the mountains memories Hang on to sleep as it resembles death Sink into love as something warm and cuddly Buried in each other at the bottom of forever Arm in arm to rise again Resurrected on the last day as one lover Sharp rocks and bliss can take you far Stumble in the dark as strangers drunk Fall with the night from up above in love Watch that last step from the mountain Land gently in the chamber bed And in the morning another lover comes Not the same but just as lost and dumb Touched with the essence of raw charm More handsome than the rest of death With an air of mystery, a kiss, a misstep Later on, under the bridge Where noisy water falls Crashing on to rocks to shape them smooth Love and death walk enchanted hand in hand Gather thoughts along the river mouth Breath oxygen and pray life stays the same Take fragility by the hand The taste for living on will linger Things don't last forever Exhale when it is over Pain and pleasure captured In their spell of here and now Draw from the river streams true thoughts Drink the same poisons that are truth Almost twins to the bitter end as friends Love is so penetrating Death is as stark Both are such enigmas Take a moment to appreciate Love and death go too far Under the covered water falls
