December 3rd: Finding Answers and QuestionsA Chapter by ED Adams “Just show yourself!” I yelled it. My voice echoed into the night then silence. That’s when she showed her face. Her black hair was dripping wet and the moon made her skin look pale like porcelain, her dark eyes though made her seem nothing less than scary and intimidating. “Hello.” She said swimming gently in the water. “My name is Sibel.” I was swallowed hard, she was Lysander’s wife. Real wife. I didn’t know what to say. I wasn’t sure what she was going to say or do. I didn’t take my eyes off of her, because I feared for my life. “How rude, you won’t introduce yourself? What do you not speak English?” She mocked me now, I wasn’t fazed because survival instinct told me not to be. “My names Eve.” I said it quickly. “Why are you here?” “Eh, I got a few flashes from Lysander’s mind. Did he tell you if he cheats on me I’ll see whom and when?” I nodded, it was pitch black but I could see her smile. “Yes, well then you’ll know I’ve gotten quite a few. Lysander lies to himself he’s not cheating on me with you.” “But he hasn’t. We haven’t.” I wasn’t sure what she implied. Lysander I had done nothing. “He has feelings for you. You know that. That acting loophole only works if it is real acting.” She stopped swimming and just stared at me. “You are so young. You do not know much do you?” “I know enough for now.” I didn’t know where to go. I wanted to leave but I knew she could out run me and out fight me. “Child, you need to open yourself up! I mean I know this is only your third change but didn’t Lysander notify you. He notified little Liam. I didn’t get to him soon enough but you I can save.” “Save?” “Yes, save. I want to make Werewolves known. Out of the shadows. Hundreds of years in the dark, being hunted people spreading lies about our race! Don’t you feel it in your blood now. Your different then your family your friends. You fear them knowing the real you now. You fear them wanting to harm you or fear you. It is ridicules that it is this way when we really have all the power. Do you understand that I alone could take out a whole town by myself? If we organized ourselves we could be more.” “Why are you telling me this?” I asked trying to find a way out. I felt the panic of no way out slip into my mind. “Because you are young, because you don’t want to lose everyone you love. I did. I left a son, Lysander left his son only to stock him in the shadows. Is that what you wish to do with your life?” “Lysander would never make me choose that kind of life. Liam left because he choose to leave.” Backed away enough that I could feel the slimy ground beneath my feet. “For now.” Sibel knew how to me question myself. She made me think, yet I still didn’t trust her. “Nice wedding by the way. You know I don’t want Lysander anymore. He tried to kill me once, couldn’t do it. I took the dagger he had into his back it had a poison tip. Do you know what you are and aren’t able to touch anymore?” “Silver right?” She laughed I wasn’t sure I was wasn’t trying to leave. “What then?” “Lysander is slipping as a maker I must have a word to him about that.” She said it and I felt as if the water round me was really oil. “Liam is my maker.” I said it strongly. Sibel looked away from me for a moment. “Interesting, little Liam has a student. We all make mistakes with our first don’t we?” She looked up at the moon and took a deep breath. “You know I have over a hundred of my own. They all begged me to change them. I’ve sort have perfected the whole training bit. If you ever want a new way of thinking you’ll know how to find me.” She swam to the edge of the water and got out. “Or then again, I may pop in soon. Say hello to my family. Toddle loo.” She ran off into the dark and I knew I was alone. I didn’t want to leave the water though. I felt safer in them then the thought of leaving them. When I knew daylight was approaching I swam out of the water timidly and changed. For the first time it felt it was exhausting to change, I want to fall down and sleep but I knew better. I forced myself into a dead run for over an hour when I saw the house. I ran into the house and scratched on Lysander’s door. He opened the door and I changed back into a human, I felt dazed and weak. “Sibel. I.” I couldn’t finish speaking I collapsed into his arms. I wasn’t completely out though. I heard there whispers. “Sibel is back? How?” Liam’s voice was shaky. “Did she hurt her?” “I don’t think so. I don’t how or why. No I know why. We need to move now.” Lysander started shuffling around the room. Something stopped him. “I refuse to let her hurt us anymore.” “Then you should have killed her.” Liam voice gained strength. “That’s the fact. Another fact is, she won’t move. You promised her that she would graduate! Her family? She’ll stay. You know that.” “I need to go outside.” Lysander storm out of the house. I could hear Lysander slam the front door so hard it broke off its hinges. Liam was still in the room with me. I could feel his stress seep through him. I was still so tired but I forced my eyes open and I looked at him. “Why didn’t you guys run with me?” Liam looked at me and knelled by the bed. “It was supposed to be my turn to run with you. I was happy to do it. But I couldn’t find you. I ran everywhere, I couldn’t smell or feel you. It was the strangest thing. Sibel must have learned something new.” “Why me? Bramm was right there. I know you smelled him. I can smell like you know and I know you knew he was there.” I wanted to know. I remembered that night and the bon fire where we met. “That night, I walked near you and I could tell you where outcasted yourself from the party. You where deep into a though when I interrupted, you had this look in your eyes. Maybe it was because you where drunk but I wanted to know you.” He paused and looked at me. “I did what I always did when I met people like you. I imagined a world where I could get to know you and you could know the real me. I let myself befriend you, love you, it was the only way I thought I could. I saw you jump into that SUV with that idiot and I didn’t have a choice.” “What?” “I chased the car. I ran after it in the woods. I was running alone side it when he veered off the road. He hit me. Now I can heal quickly but if you get hit by a speeding SUV you need a few minutes, I saw him. Him lying there, in that moment I could have killed him but I felt it better to let nature take its course, it was slower. Then I saw you. I panicked I picked you up and ran to this place. Lysander was livid. I told him it would be on me to kill you if it came down to it. You know the rest.” “I don’t feel anything for you but…” I couldn’t finish. I would never want to hurt him and I wasn’t sure what wouldn’t. “Friendship. Eh, I know. I gave up on it when I knew Lysander had feelings for you. I knew that was trouble but he hasn’t been alive. He was always looking for something. I always thought I was Sibel. A way to fix her, she didn’t want to be helped.” Liam took a big breath. I was more tired now; I had trouble keeping my eyes open. “I’ll call the school.” Liam hadn’t even left the room before I was asleep. I slept that whole day. I wasn’t sure when Lysander showed up but I woke up when he brought in a large pizza into the room. The smell of food is what woke me up. “Hey. We need to talk.” I sat up and reached for the box of pizza. Lysander smiled at me and sat down on the bed. “What did she say to you?” “She talked to me about things.” I took a bite of pizza, it tasted so good. “She told me she had flashes from your mind.” “But I never.” “Well you did because she knows. Ugh is really this hard to admit you have feelings for me? I must be a real dog.” I paused. I laughed as I took another bite of pizza. “She found me, told me other stuff that you already know about, well did she tell you she’s a maker for over a hundred weres?” “No. Last time we met it was in the twenties. She’s been busy.” I picked up another slice of pizza as he thought. I another two slices before Lysander spoke again. “She’s building an army of misguided weres.” I stopped eating, I had over half of a large pizza yet I wasn’t full. I looked over at Lysander he was still thinking to himself. I took the pizza box off the bed and put it on the ground. I looked at him thinking, he was so old yet he looked my age. I was think about something to, I always thought about this when I was with him. I wanted to kiss him. I wanted him to kiss me. It wasn’t going to happen unless he gave me a sign it was alright. Sibel already knew and didn’t care, if I had to guess she cheated on him. “Does it matter if you admit if you like me or not? She knows. You can’t use that anymore as a way to dodge the question.” He looked me in the eyes and frowned. “It’s not obvious?” “I need you to say it.” As said this Lysander smiled. “I wish it where that simple.” Lysander leaned in and was less than an inch from me. I held my breath. I couldn’t even think straight anymore. “You’re still new with this whole were thing. If I let myself like you, really like you, I would try to shelter you from the truth and I won’t make that mistake twice. I know me well enough to know that.” He kissed my cheek then left the room without another word. I picked up the pizza on the floor and finished it. I decided to leave his room and went to my room, I was surprised when I walked in to it. I hadn’t been in my room since I had that one time when I walked in and Liam saw me naked and the few times I had run in and out quickly for a change of clothes. Now in the day light I could really see it. Liam had been busy, he’d built me a bookshelves and a new bed frame that had been carved by hand. The bed post had a wolf carved into it I turned around and saw that Liam had also built TV stand. I looked at it all and felt a tug on my heart. This must have been a time consuming process, I felt bad not noticing it sooner. I walked down the steps and went into the kitchen to Liam to thank him. He wasn’t there, I checked the living room then I ran back upstairs and knocked on his door. No answer, I pushed the door open and saw his room for the first time. Liam’s room was better than my room. He had everything my room had and so much more. Books lined the walls, books that where new and books that looked older then even Liam. His whole room felt old fashioned yet it was also new. It was almost a polar opposite from Lysander’s room. Though all the history Liam’s held Lysander’s held as well. It felt like is room but it was all unexpected when I saw it. “Whatcha looking at?” Liam was right behind me. I jumped and Liam laughed. “I was looking for you. I wanted to say thank you for my room.” I smacked him on the arm. “But you didn’t have to go and scare me you big jerk.” We both laughed for a moment then he ushered me to walk into his room. I did and immediately walked to the old books. I wanted to see what books were there. “Yeah you spotted those. Lysander found them through the years.” Liam looked at the books. “I’ve sort of been keeping track of all these things since I was turned. I was always a reader I was sick a lot as a kid, reading was my escape. Some of these aren’t even suppose to be here. Lost works. Lysander was a reader to, one thing that ran in the family. He saved things from when he was human. He’s a pack rat in some ways.” “Wow. These are great. I haven’t heard of half of these though.” I touched the spine of a book that didn’t have a name or author on the side. “What is this?” “The book I wrote when I was turned.” He pulled it out of the shelve then handed it to me. “My journal, I kept it in case we ever... I never planned to… It explains everything.” I looked down at the book in my hands. It was plain and worn not exactly the book you’d expect to hold answers to werewolf questions. It looked like a book that would be ordinary. It almost made me laugh that this unassuming book would be the book that would hold secrets to a word that nobody knew about. “Take care of it, it’s a bit older then you. Don’t worry it’s in English. I didn’t start it until after we moved to America. I used it as a way to help me learn.” Liam looked serious and stressed. “You excited to have that double tonight?” I said out of nowhere. “You think she could ever really like me?” Liam said as if he couldn’t believe anyone could. “It been a while since I’ve even had a date. It seems like a bad idea.” She already likes you, you big goon.” I slugged him on the arm. “You are a real great guy. If I were a smarter person I would beaten Serena to asking you out. It’s just all messed up for me. It would be nice to see you happy though.” “You too nice to me. I’ve taken so much from you.” He looked at me sadly. “Taken what? Liam you’ve given me a lot.” “You say that now. Now that you still are here, near your family that you can talk to. One day we’ll have to leave. Serena will notice that you don’t age like she will.” Liam took a big breath. “You won’t understand until you see it.” Liam turned away from me and I took that as a sign that I should leave. I walked out the door then sprinted to my room to read the book. I felt like answers that I craved from the morning after I was bit was trapped into these pages. I felt a thrill of excitement; I jumped onto my bed and opened the book. There was a new life in the air and as I read the first page.
