Sun of Hope (Sestina)

That night I looked at the stars and would wish
I gazed at the moon and sent up a prayer
When I used to sing I would dream
It was as though nothing but me is here
And I felt as if I could fly to the sun
Then the dream world was shattered.

As I was dreaming, the window was shattered
A rock had come through as I just made my wish
As I cleaned up the mess, I glanced at the sun
Though it has been weeks, I sent up a prayer
I yell to the heavens in case someone can hear
I think of my late child and continue to dream.

My son has returned, at least that is my dream
But my heart, like the window, is too finely shattered.
I know he'll return, if only the heavens would hear.
To see him alive again is my only wish.
To just once hear his voice is my greatest prayer
I look out the window, and see my son!

He stands there alive. My strong, loving son!
My eyes brim with joy because he's not just a dream.
My hope was successful. Heaven did hear my prayer!
My heart has been mended as my sorrow shattered
As happy tears fall, I cry out to my one wish.
My son has returned I now know heaven can hear.

He's in the house! He is finally here!
My love. My joy. My only son.
This moment's been my only wish
Yet I feel as though I'm still in a dream
Then I hear his voice and my doubt shattered.
I have fulfilled my only prayer.

His life has been so long in my prayer.
He's in my arms! We must truly be here.
I'm so happy, yet that happiness shatters.
He vanishes, my only son.
As I awaken from the dream
But I still heard my one true wish.

It is his voice I wish of as I send another prayer
I ask to dream of him because it is his voice I want to hear.
I look out to see the sun, and I know he's happy so my sadness shatters.
