Summer, A Final Night

Summer, A Final Night

The sky fades on the final night.

I look up, the beautiful stars shine.

Once again I am here.

This is not the first or the last time.

After long warm days, cool air is setting in.

Leaves are starting to fall…

Yet green remains upon the trees.

From now it is a matter of waiting.

Pictures of my friend’s faces shine into my mind.

Excitement of what is yet to come fills my stomach.

Yet, there is a feeling of hate.

My long days of enjoyment are over

And my days of hard work are growing near.

My backpack is sitting next to my bed,

My books are fastened inside.

I am prepared to go,

Whether I like it or not.

So, I continue to look up at the stars…

I continue to breathe in the final night of summer,

For I only have two more years…

Two more nights…such as this, before it is over.

Days like this only last so long.

Days like this I wish last forever.

Days like this should never end.

For when they do end…

They will never come back.

Night sets in and time for depart has come.

I shut my window and sit down in my bed.

When I awaken…school will start.

When I awaken…friends will return.

When I awaken…that is what I wait for.

Until then… I can only dream.

Until then… I can only wonder.

Until then… I can only sleep.

My summer vacation is over, and I only have two left.

The sadness of this hasn’t set in.

But it will set in on my final summer.
