Song of the Civil War

Song of the Civil War

A Poem by Claire
"

Poem about the Civil War and it’s impact on the American people

"
The South Wind blows
Bringing with her the sounds of Dixie:
The smell of cotton,
The sight of lean black bodies,
The touch of a hound dog,
The taste of cornbread,
The sound of the slave’s lament.
The North Wind blows
Bringing with him the sounds of revolution:
The smell of a winter day,
The sight of factories,
The touch of a freed man,
The taste of rebellion,
The sound of war.
A soft breeze whispers
Bringing the sound of hope to the runaway:
The smell of pine,
The sight of a safe-house and lantern,
The touch of a Quaker woman,
The taste of freedom,
The sound of a word- Emancipation.
