BUTCHER`N THE HOG

BUTCHER`N THE HOG

A Poem by Eagle Cruagh

Butcher`n the Hog

This feller wants to be society
So he drops rein at this ole cafe
There was a crowd today
They was celebrate`n a play

Shake`n dust out his big hat
And saddle sweated jeans
He saunters to the bar
Where he can see `thout  bein seen

Sipp`n a glass of liquid fire
He eyes the assembled crowd
The barkeep sez I guess yer new
To the best writer`s of renown

 But you`ll git aquainted soon
Jist give the girl in the red dress a whirl
The stranger sips and sweep`s the place
With eyes of steel finding not a trace

Of a friendly face
But many a hostile stare
What kinda people is this
He asks the smiling server

It`s the world`s greatest writers
And a few manipulators too
A few high school drop outs
And some are just like you

The stranger thinks to make his move
To the red dress gal he ambles
She looks at him and holds her nose
He smiles and takes her hand

She sez your dirty but you still stand out
Above this brown nose crowd
He grins and moves her on to the floor
Where they glide like a couple swans

He holds her close and they move out
The door
Cuz
She was born to class

Hahaha this poem made me chuckle, the last line was so killer. I like how instead of using proper grammar you saunter out that western slang and write the poem like it's supposed to be read and how it's supposed to be heard. It's a song and a story about a dashing cowboy hero...and I like it :)

This made me think of the move Romy and Michee's high school reunion when you penned:
It`s the world`s greatest writers
And a few manipulators too
A few high school drop outs
And some are just like you
We all want to be that special somebody. Sometimes all it takes is a moment of equality to sweep a stranger off their feet.

You always have a way with your writing, like with how you write with an accent that takes the reader to that special time and place as though we too were swaying :P Well, I know I was when I read this piece :P "Where they glide a couple swans" This line hit me hardest coz I did feel as though I were swaying to the rhythm and flow of your poem :P Good job as always!
