There's something special in seeing a new born creature, its trembing first steps, hearing its near sad wee call; for a small boy, those sights and sounds would bring feelings even he doesn't quite understand yet.. tenderness, sensitivity .. call it what you like.
Could see the boy holding and feeding the lamb .. then head on side, hearing the ewe call and call in the plaintiff way it happens .. so with a shrug, returns the babe to his mother, quickly, safely. Lovely post.
This is quite beautiful. Having been at the birth of several lambs, I can relate well to the bonding between ewe and babe. Love the alliteration you weave in this. And the boy responding to the ewe's need shows the heart of your story. Most excellent. :)
My grandfather always said that nature is designed to take care of itself; it is not right to interfere. Whether we feel what nature does it right or not; it has always been and should be left of always be. It is so hard to leave an orphaned fawn or raccoon, etc. in the woods, but nature is set up to take care of, even, that. I loved that way that the boy realizes that the lamb belongs with and to the ewe; it is her charge to care for. I felt this was well written and easy to read and enjoy! Please, read my "Toadus," similar in "nature!!"
