ONCE YOU`VE HEARD THE OWL

ONCE YOU`VE HEARD THE OWL

A Poem by Eagle Cruagh

ONCE YOU`VE HEARD THE OWL

Listen to the lonesome coyote howl

Coo of the turtle dove

Drink from the flowing spring

And the panther`s midnight call

Not `til then old friend

Will the moon smile down

On the beginning and the end

Of a friendship that has flown

This sleepy summer day

A clucking prairie chicken

Nesting in the new mown hay

Brings future thoughts that quicken

Of speeding cars

And flights to mars

Mark not our final thoughts

Those things are only ours

In summing up

Drink from the flowing spring

Listen to the owl

Night falls sealing everything

This is one of the most thought provoking pieces I've read in a while..
Your presentation of nature is enticing and very naturally written.
It leaves the reader craving the quiet, old age when we were closer to nature...
I might be totally wrong but that's what it says to me !
Well done !

Nicely written, however I sensed something nostalgic and almost secretive or timid as if you did not want to deliver to the reader the full extent of this lyrical experience. This restrain gives the poem however a very dignifeid aspect.

It is a wonderful peice, it is as if you lost something close to you... The contrast to nature puts it into perspective that everything goes back from where we came... again a great peice!!!

Oh, do you hear that?
I think those are applauses in the background.
Marvelous poem, especially the last line.
I can't get it out of my head, just like your beautiful poetry.

How lovely, tho a hint of sadness for someone or something precious passed

You write about nature as if it were a second skin for you .. and that so much appeals to me cos I'm a country girl through and through and know the feel of Nature - its beating heart is just magical.

'They' do say that the sight of an owl is a warning of a death .. perhaps here you're alluding to the friendship dying .. and yet, the sight of an owl at night is just beautiful, as I'm sure you know, so, like me, won't and can't believe that omen!

That coyote howl and the panther's call would echo and echo .. such a wonderful haunting sound .. what aural pics you've painted with your words.
'As to the night fall sealing everything' .. tis true, it does ..

This is beautiful and will be kept.

This write appears to be about the ending of a loved relationship and it is done with great respect for what has been. There are refreshing words detailing the possibilities of new love while at the same time there is the mention of the treasured past.
