LAST TRAIN OUT OF BISMARK

LAST TRAIN OUT OF BISMARK

A Poem by Eagle Cruagh
"

The last fight of a valiant horse

"
LAST TRAIN OUT OF BISMARK

Busting bronco saddle bent
Lurching off the trail
Leaping hurdles in her path
She speeds onward with the mail

Darking sky opens gushing rain
Flipping o`er the furze intent
Dauntless courier will catch her train
Far away a mournful whistle sounds

Heaving bronco sucking air
No time left to breathe
Sweating horse will get her there
A plume of smoke on the horizon

Pancho strains the bridle
Thundering hooves drum o`er the prairie
As this valiant rider goes for broke
A pony with heart of champions speeds on

Thundering down the last embankment
Stumbling, coughing, lathered sides
Pancho racing his precious cargo
Overhauled the speeding train---he dies

It sounds like he could'nt keep up with progress. I felt the rhythm of this piece but must admit I was thrown off by the unrhymed second stanza. Nevertheless a creative poem which brings back that pony express story line that was most enjoyable. Liked this a lot. Well done.

Loved this. It sits in me like a painting on the wall of a long forgotten, country hotel full of dust and dreary travellers but there, unseen by those distracted by weariness, lies this 'painting', so full of life and the story it tells. I see it and I am drawn into the scene and can feel all the passion of the story depicted. I am captured and dazzled and for just a moment, I am in the painting....

Oh I didn't see that ending coming... it threw me for a loop! :) Great job... I could hear the hoofbeats and feel the exciting emotions... :)
