FRIENDS

FRIENDS

A Poem by Eagle Cruagh
"

Just let me be a friend to man

"
FRIENDS

Let us examine the condition
Of which you speak
Perhaps there is something
I can do while at my peak

Like maybe be a friend to you
What can I do
For that is what a friend is like
It is just to be true blue

And what is true blue you ask
It`s to undertake any task
Just so you don`t need to
And I`ll be off my back

Now the question still needs
An answer  since civilization
Hangs while my heart bleeds
So, here goes a dramatization

Friends, fellows, countrymen
Do you remember that man who died
That we might live
He was my friend, he never lied

Do you remember all those men who died
That we might be free
They never thought of `selves
They only lived for you and me

Do you remember all those folks from 9-11
Were they thinking of themselves ?
I think they worried for the ones they loved
And perhaps a little for the One Above

Now we`re getting somewhere with this
If friends died for us who knew us not
Can we call our fellow man our friend
Even though his life has never been our lot ?

You bet we can, you, every woman and man
Must be my friend and you certainly can
Do you remember the wholesome soul
Who lived by the side of the road ?

I will build my house by the side of the road
and be a friend to man.  Remember ?
Nothing said about who is going to be my friend
Just know me as the one you will turn to
In the end----the end.

This is a strong piece that articulates what the genuineness of friendship to our fellow man symbolizes! The word friend seems to be taken lightly, as do the people that give their lives so that we might live ours!

One of my favorite stanza's; as you narrated this so well, but the whole piece was excellent ~ Jude :-)

I really enjoyed this poem. Makes one stop and think about what it takes to be a friend, as well as, taking a good hard look at those that CALL themselves friends. Thank you for the insight.

What a wonderful message. If only more were friend to man. Nicely done, my friend.

I love the thoughts behind this one...the way it makes you think about what its saying instead of just accepting it
The rhyme scheme sounds a little bit forced in places though, mostly the beginning.
Overall I really like it though.

well isn't that thought provoking? who is the friend and what does it take to be one? take is usually the operative word...

I really like this poem, especially the fourth and last stanzas. I love how you redefine the idea of a friend; that a friend could be somebody you've never even met before.

---- Eagle Cruagh

"I will build my HOUSE" ... I look upon the 'house' as my heart, my character, if you will.
..."by the side of the road" ... Wherever I am; whether I have found easy times or yielding my sword through adversity...the place at which I find myself at present...is the perfect time to extend the hand of friendship.
"Nothing said about who is going to be my friend"... This is what is so wonderful about life...you never know what end you will be on...the receiving or the giving. Will it be your heart that is touched or your heart that touches.
"Just know me as the one you turn to in the end..." ... God works through his Angels on earth...

Beautiful piece...thank you for sharing it with me.

I'm sorry it took me so long to review.

I really liked this piece. The title sounded a bit...normal..I guess would be the word but after reading it, it's emotions started to come into play.

"Friends, fellows, countrymen
Do you remember that man who died
That we might live
He was my friend, he never lied

Do you remember all those men who died
That we might be free
They never thought of `selves
They only lived for you and me

Do you remember all those folks from 9-11
Were they thinking of themselves ?
I think they worried for the ones they loved
And perhaps a little for the One Above."

This gave me chills. I really really loved this. It was a piece well written and you managed to change it's emotion at least twice.

Nice job.

he never lied... what a powerful stand. True and yet what it can imply about the other friends is so strong. The last two verses have an intense statement. allowing to let go of judgment. Build a home for one an all. I try to live this message whole heartedly. sometimes you trust blindly. What makes anyone more just then anyone else or deserve more respect than another human being?
we are all friends in humanity. build your home for all your friends on the side of the road.

what a moving, thought provking piece.

thank you.
