The DEvltn of Wrd

The DEvltn of Wrd

A Poem by E.H. Monroe
"

what happens when words go to war?

"

In the beginning, there was the

Word

And that word curved in absurd triangles traced stencils and made sentences

Sentences then sang songs in forms of eons and a graphed the paths of paragraphs

Paragraphs split seeds,

Spit evil deeds and good intentions

And the glow grew 40 stories and the radiance was glorious

Furious was the Darkness and Ignorance ignored the brilliance

They mixed vowels, dangled participles, crossed T’s and dotted I’s

And writer’s block was born in the sighs of demised cries

The consonants constantly ran amok,

Chaos engulfed the grammar

Tragically trimming the wisdom with a dyslexic hulking hammer

Dictionaries cannibalized encyclopedias and Thesaurus saw us

Red pens slinked from the sludge and tattooed the town

Hymns and ballads were the first to go down

And we locked ourselves in the tower of intellect and creation

Our station brke aprt and couldn’t reach anee for communeekation

The alfa wuz flawed and beta got klostrfobic

S-O-S!

Ess-oh-ess!!

SMH, LOL, LMFAO and broken sell fones

Weve mass prodused clones and tumors that eat Poemz

All Phucked now, we stare as the siti wallz collapse

Wee neede Halp, the dronz have breeched the system

Homo fones wit boms disman(tell) tha Wizdom

Is anneeone out there?

Kum bak home

Kum bak h…

Transmission terminated…

Wrapped up in lace and sewiside bombers.....amazing what it has come down to. One thought on the texting language....we all think that its bullshit and ruining our kids lives, but in corporate america, the top nuts would kill for someone to come up with that kind of efficiency in everday business. Sweet writing, glorious message now hold your hand out I'm going to give you a Benjamin for your troubles and then borrow it back so I can put a bet on a game. Soon as I win, I'll pay you back.

A great way of putting this. The decline of our language, it's not evolution it's ridiculous! Loved it =D

Ooooh i adore this - as communication develops, so it is destroyed. I love the way the structure and format of the poem become shorter and shorter as we spend longer saying less, in fewer words. Then the catch at the end with the transmission being killed was very clever. Fantastic imagery and an inspired poem - definitely going in my favourites.

Oh, my God! I'm absolutely in LOVE with this poem. How, exactly, did you capture every single generation of communication? Breaking down, breaking down. Perfect.

Ha, this is absolutely excellent. A great history of the evolution, and "devolution" of language. Clever, rhythmic, whimsical metaphor, and full of the feel of the chaos it describes. Perky rhymes. Good use of sounds and rhythm throughout, even as the poem descends into "txt spk" which is interesting as I feel this could also be taken as a comment on the rhythm and fluidity inherent in language formation, even in it's most mangled form!! Very well written, witty, entertaining, and perceptive.

Oh sweet caramel coated jesus.

You're a dandy fellow, you know?

Maybe you're aware of what this means to the world, besides the whole 'degredation of society, humankind' in all aspects type thing, but see it's also like there's hope, you took this sewage of society and make coffee out of it (look, biffy, we have an insider ;D), something to soak up and think about, kinda wakes me up makes me look around and say. o fuxxors.

We're all so connected through technology, supposedly, but we're all still so lonely, everybody is turning into consumeristic zombies, feedinng off materialism and I foresee no end to this. everybody needs to be doused in this here nice cup of joe and wake the f**k up.
