Crooked On Phonics

Crooked On Phonics

A Poem by E.H. Monroe
"

Another head knocking a*s shocker from the Local Ugly Maniac.

"

I am a horrid drug addict

It begins with the tap tap of the street syringe that gives life to the off time beats of the music

Please don’t mind my ADHD ADD because I must have my XYZ’s confused

My diagnosis is hopeless

And the doctor has a prescription for imaginary ailments

while drugstore cowboys inhale that

Ex-pe-a-li-docious

I bump lines of blue curves and red margins

Imagining armies of green clovers, purple moons and blackened sins

Unlock mysterious miseries in the smoky trees of memory seeds

Puff

Puff

Give

fool, don’t f**k up my rotation

A touch of exhalation, shotgun Angel’s dust into the faces of this idea pregnant nation

I am an intellectual crack Pusher

More bags of creative tar than Spiders from Mars and the Cat Ziggy who played guitar

And heroin?

She’s All in

The female protagonist with more cures than acetaminophen

Stacks of metaphoric alcoholic nectar never runs dry

We are all drunk on the minds of a thousand lies of our inner eye

And the addiction grows in every time the rain dries and a relative dies

And the addiction grows in every time we swallow pills and magic paint spills

And the addiction grows when Meth labs blow causing blood flows to create stanzas of despression

And we create a session of lines of impeccable truth

And spines of books are written in the life lines and across sky lines of the youth

I say stay hooked on the Phonics

Addicted to dream tectonics

Detoxing is the pleasure of pen to paper verbonics

How do you know you have a drug problem? When the cop tells you to walk the wtite line you get down on your knees and try to snort it.
I love the poem.especialy the meth lab blowing.people don't realize how dangerous those meth labs can be.it is true that all that cool shat you love o read was mainly written on a whole lot of drugs.I am a mommy now,so I changed my ways but back in the day I could write all night and half way through the next day.keep up the good work .I think it's cool and I don't care how many drugs it took to write it

imagery and a beat... that's a one-two punch.
i can hear that drawn-out 'Ex-pe-a-li-docious' ... its all quick and razor sharp, but this bit me especially hard:
We are all drunk on the minds of a thousand lies of our inner eye

and this:
addiction grows when Meth labs blow causing blood flows to create stanzas of despression

And we create a session of lines of impeccable truth

And spines of books are written in the life lines and across sky lines of the youth

The title made me laugh before I even read this poem, which turned out to be absolutely beautiful. Sick -- in the disgusting way, but especially in the slang 70s way.

Wow this really made me think. The title is what first caught my attention.

Strong powerful verse EH! It reads as though it were being shouted from a pulpit with strong, cutting and precision in the lines. Pen to paper is a very cathartic way of cleansing the mind of clutter. I think of all the poets/songwriters/people that I know who require this additional stimulation to feel they have a rational thought. Sad, but true. James Taylor hasn't had a hit song since he stopped riding the horse....and so the story continues. Wonderful write as always!

I am not sure how you get your mind to work this way and twist words into a creative meaning the way you do but I sure would like to have a dose of it. This is pure genius my friend. This is like seeing straight into the brain matter of a writer. Not only do we crave to write but we carve to read as well. WOW I am just blown away by the way you compare it to all different form of drugs that people are addicted to. I feel much better now I have had my EH fix for the day.

This is really good. I've read a lot of similar poetry in this style, but this is really sophisticated and well developed. It has all of that chaos and confusion and slightly schizophrenic lurching between different moods and concepts. Yet it is coherent and disciplined, the rhythm is steady and readable and the language is sophisticated. I am in love with "I say stay hooked on the Phonics, Addicted to dream tectonics, Detoxing is the pleasure of pen to paper verbonics", that is absolutely amazing writing!! Each section is clearly delineated, even without actual section breaks. I like the sense of movement and progression through the poem, and the schizophrenic mix of depth and insight, alongside chaos, confusion, and shallowness. Love it!
