Thank You

“Why must this be?”

Asks a grief stricken husband.

This moment he wishes to flee,

To make all of this pain end.

But a year ago to this day,

The moment so sadly clear,

To his wife the doctor had to say,

“I am afraid it is cancer, my dear.”

“Why must this be?” he asks again.

“Our love so closely kept,

I am not ready for it to end.”

And looking down at her he wept.

“Now, now my husband,” she whispered.

“Why do you say it is the end?

Our love so strong and honored,

Not ever having a scratch or bend.

“And look outside our window,

Where the sun shines with rejoice,

God’s own message for your sorrow,

Loud and clear is his voice.

“Remember our little wedding,

Two young faces so greatly in love,

Our feelings so warm and caring,

And then too the sun shone from above.

“Then came our little boy,

Our tiny ferocious bear,

Our little bundle of joy,

And with him the sun was always there.

“But remember when he then chose to go,

All grown up and finding his way,

He said his farewell not the least bit slow?

Then too the sunlight shone that day.

“And then a day sent from above,

So happy and light,

Our little boy vowed to love,

And not one cloud in sight.

“So don’t you understand honey?

This seemingly bad ending

Is another part of a story

That god is still writing.

“So don’t stop here,

We won’t grow apart

Because I will still be near,

Forever in your heart.

“Now I must go,

I love you my dear,

And you must know

I will always be near.

“Thank you my wife,

I could have never cared,

For anything more in my life,

Than the love we shared.

“And thank you my love,

For being my heavenly peace,

And my soaring dove,

Which I know won’t cease.

“Now rest in your bed,

As I will too.”

And beside his wife he said,

One final, “Thank you.”

I wouldn't call this poem perfect, due to your staggering rhyme pattern, but it's very close. In the poetry world that we live in today, everyone is focusing on pain and the hurt that comes with death, but you surprised me multiple times by switching the point of view by saying that it's the beginning of another story was AMAZING! This poem was very good! Bravo!

A bittersweet... An eternal love has slipped into their path of life and does not vanish as death appears to tragically steals her from his arms. An emotive write filled with wisdoms and vivid expression. heartwarming story.

_And look outside our window,
Where the sun shines with rejoice,
God’s own message for your sorrow,
Loud and clear is his voice._ ADORE THIS STANZA ...

This is a very emotional, and lovely poem to read. It's simple and beautiful. The tones are two different and low, which makes the poem so much better. Great write. :)

Extremely delightful to read. As Aleyah said, an oddly happy tone to a sad subject. I would definitely recommend this to many people.
