An exercise in analogy

An exercise in analogy

A Poem by Tony
"

If nothing else, I'd like to use my repetitive depressing yet inspirational thought to expand my abilities in different methods of symbolism. Analogy is obviously the direct link there.

"
I'm looking for a word,
I know it isn't glue.
Sure it holds these things together,
that I know is true.
Still the bond is lasting,
and that much can't relate.
It's a fact this scene's contrasting,
that you can't debate.

Tape just won't work either.
True it's temporary,
but only once it's used to bind,
its purpose then is buried.

Tacks can do some damage,
if only just a little,
but we're two among the gamut
and our paper hearts are brittle.

Velcro's what I'm looking for,
it binds but not for good.
If you decide to try another time,
as once, it would.

Problems throughout, point out whatever you think needs most change. This one isn't really a showpiece or one to share with anyone out of this site, but I figured while I'm stuck on this thought I may as well write another and see how well I could apply analogy. Oh - and depending on what rhythm you apply to the seventh line, the eighth line does or doesn't need the word "and" at the beginning..but that's an issue I don't know how to resolve and again, this isn't really one that needs perfection.
