I am a firm believer in there being beauty everywhere, if you look for it. Outer beauty is nothing, what is inside is of far more relevance. My Dad used to read the story of the ugly duckling who turned out to be a swan to me. Loved that story.

It comes easier with age and is well worth the effort.
Like the play on words here and the harking back to nursery rhymes while also reminding us that cookies are a fact of modern life and they don't all come in jars. Something shouts unease with oneself but coming to terms.

Thanks, John... Nursery rhymes are some of my favorite inspirations
I believe we all are our own worst enemies. Have you ever noticed if you like a person, that person's flaws seem to disappear or even become the reason that person is beautiful? Yes, there is always beauty within ugliness....it takes an astute individual to find it. I liked the line "the cookies have no pantry".....we all feel lost in social situations at times. Not all situations are right for everyone. Well written. Lydi**

What is it about lust that blinds so, and what is it about love that endures....

I think this is by far one of my most pondered subjects thats why I chose it for the contest. my last attempt to write of it sent me barreling down a winding road I was asking customers at my store there definitions and made a list of several pages it is also written of in many philosophies and I studied those too and in the end I wrote a poem "eye of the beholder" regarding the current Margaret Wolf definition that is the most prevalent in western society today. and it always bothered me the ole Beauty is in the eye of the beholder approach never struck me correct that there was more to it than that and I am sure I'm not finished with it but had to give my brain a break on the subject for a while and look what I just did I started a contest on it and now I will be back obsessing!!!!

Thanks for the inspiration and deep-thoughts...
Interesting poem. I liked it a lot. Beauty is often something people are after in such things like humans but we can also be very beautiful in the inside.
Ugliness with beauty...
beauty within ugliness...
struggling with the futile illusion of comfort...mirror, mirror, who is the fairest of the fair Muse
scribbling sundries the magnet holds in thrall until the designer is caught in the pantry with his hand in the cookie jar.
We write...she's right...ugly ducklings all.
Well done.

sometimes the beauty is really hidden...but if we stick our hand in the cookie jar and pull out some tolerance and depth of character, we can see that beauty deep within another...
and i also see the speaker looking at himself...inner struggles show up, even in a mirror.
reflections of what is inside as well as out.
