Painted Mask

Painted Mask

A Chapter by Dy

A painted mask hides me

I'm kept safe by the lies on my face

Nobody will ever know me

Not the real me

I'm safe behind my false smile

With this, I cannot be touched

They see a smile

Not the despair

That's the beauty of my mask

It hides me

Allows me to be free

And all the while they are kept in the dark

Kept happy without knowing

Sight is all they need

Just the sight of this

My painted mask
