Build These Walls

Build These Walls

A Poem by Dustin Reichmuth
"

Sleep deprived.

"
Times like these I think I should write from the heart.
But then I remember that it'd be far too dark.
So I put it to a pretty tune
That I'm sure you will be hearing soon.
All this shame lays upon my chest.
But you look so good in that dark red dress.
I don't know where this might end up.
Hell or heaven is not enough.

So leave, or stay.
But make up your mind
'Cause I've made up mine.
And I want you here.

See, I've been thinking.
And I've made so many mistakes with what I want.
And I've been sinking.
Beneath the debris of the Times New font.

Yes I know these words don't make sense.
In case you read this, I won't take that chance.

Red paints the color of love and lust.
Blue reminds us of a bitter trust.
Green throws it out and we lose it all.
So what color will you paint these walls?

The flow is off, the rhythm is bare.
But you know what, I just don't care.
Because you're reading this inside your head.
Before those cells all die instead.
The alcohol burns a whole in deep.
Chest cavity is growing steep.
I won't ever make it out alive.
Neither will you, you're out of time.

So leave, or stay.
(Red paints the color of the walls)
But make up your mind
(Blue reminds us of a dining hall)
'Cause I've made up mine.
(Green still means that we lost it all)
And I want you here.
