Fragile Hearts

Fragile Hearts

A Poem by Dustin Reichmuth
"

Oh, the complex feeling of love.

"
I could feel my heartbeat taking me down.
And I knew that I had known the truth.
Like a man trapped inside a boy
I have lost my greedy toy, my greedy toy.

Found you with your hand out, after you found out
That this wasn't quite the way to the top.
I wish I never would have seen that look.
I'd trade back a hundred million times, a million times.

I could sense the hotness, mixed in with some coldness.
Just the right blend of hate.
So tell me what's been left to lose
So I can stop this restless shake, this restless shake.

You were somewhere softer, though your life was harder.
Knowing that you lost their love.
I hoped you would have heard their calls.
They've been wordless like some passed over psalms, those restless calls.

I knew at once it was over, as the water rushed overhead.
And you could see it was done with, from the lack of my heaving chest.
And for once what I thought wasn't tragic, but a sorry, wasted lifetime.
And God gave me the gift of an angel, and I thought, I can make this right.
But I got back that feeling I once had, and I knew this would never end.
Until then I saw your smile, lost and unprotected, and I knew love, again.
