Walk

Walk

A Poem by Dushyant Patni
"

Or why psycho-actives, rock and Dante is not a good combo.

"

Walking amidst the pleasant blooming meadows

My arms stretched at my sides

Fingers stroking the cool green stalks

Droplets of morning dew glistening like stars

As I open my eyes and look

All I see is ruin and desolate dust

Splintered stone slabs pave the way

To a shape blanketed in solitude

It rises above me to the apex of the sky

Its invisible spires spreading shadows

And the deathly pallor of filth

I take steps towards it

Some nervous, some plain left-right

The fissures in the stones gaze at me

Telling, begging, and pleading me to listen

Turn back they said

Turn back they yelled

But with ears turned away I walked

Towards the looming specter

Till at last at its dark gates I stood

Gazing at the tortured souls hanging above

Their faces frozen in perpetual visages

Of terror, anguish and fear

A dank and decayed wind rushed to greet

As the gate and the ground parted at my feet

Headlong I tumbled; for days, months and years

Till at last I came to rest

In the bowels of the 10th circle of hell

And the beast stood tall before my eyes

Bellowing sulfurous roars of defiance

I drew my axe from her sheath

And ran my fingers down her neck lovingly

Notes of violence and death rang through the air

Chains erupted at Beelzebub’s feet

Pulling his head down to meet my blade

I bathed in the blood of my fallen enemy

And ascended on his horns

To the hustle and bustle of the hedgerows
Climbing on the stairway to heaven

Tried a different approach and style. An ode to my love of rock music and Dante Alighieri.

This is great, DP. Trying a different approach means you are a dynamic writer.
When we are truly steadfast to reach our goal, we will achieve it no matter how far and how many struggles we have to take...or how many enemies we have to defeat...even ourselves (our own fears).

Nice presentation. I like the diction. Keep it up!
