Fear of Flying

Fear of Flying

A Poem by Dushyant Patni
"

Sometimes its hard to see where you're headed in life.

"

I'm lost in a labyrinth of my brain

I'm slowly going insane

A thousand answers to every problem

But not a single question that I understand

Lost in the sea of thoughts

Like an albatross waiting to be shot

Soaring and swooping diving and rolling

Yet I'm still afraid of flying

Clawing with thorns and barbs

The past clinging and pulling

Closer and closer to the edge of the fall

I cringe and cry, wail and whine

Because I'm still afraid of flying

I want to just stop and turn around

And not find you there

I want to leave and never come back

To this bubble of hollowness

Picking my way through the pieces of my shattered dreams

Gathering and nurturing fleeting glimpses

of a paradise that I imagined to be perfect

A paper screen filled with dancing shadows

weaving stories from my life

I am still afraid to lose myself

Fear is an illusion as is everything else. Only when it is overcome that one realises this.

I could not help imagining this to 'Echoes' since I read albatross.. hahh.
It made this a murkier read to me and I enjoyed this piece too.
Great write again.

Yes, flying is daunting, especially faced with the risks we have to take. But sometimes it's the only way forward...I enjoyed this, great write!

You're welcome!
I think we are all afraid to lose ourselves. This poem spoke to my core.

Closer and closer to the edge of the fall
I cringe and cry, wail and whine
Because I'm still afraid of flying
I want to just stop and turn around

We are all but baby chicks that don't want to fly. Sometimes we just need a good push I think.
