A Day in RomeA Poem by Randal Bright
The As And the lithe touch of Venus caressed The myriad beads of sand That glistened like amber stardust Under the setting sun. A thousand muddy feet trample The marbled street As the cascade of sordid voices Of merchants And beggars And slaves Create a cacophony Of noise that emanate From Apollo’s golden lyre. The verdant fields of emerald Glisten with dew Within the warm embrace of motherly Ceres And the strong arm of Mars driving the cattle To their mid-day mass As wings of Minerva sprout far and wide Spreading sweet sonnets of fallen heroes And Lost lands And New worlds. I, Jupiter, God of gods Sit upon my scarlet throne Glowing vermillion with Marmalade skies And azure seas That shine of immortal radiance And enthrall the mortal mind. © 2009 Randal BrightReviews
