Don't

Don't

A Poem by Dupree
"

So this is just one of those random poems that has been caused by people trying to help and failing miserably

"

Go ahead and walk that mile

You think you can understand

That you can comprehend

How it feels to be in my shoes?

Well, darling, if you want

So badly to understand

Then slip them right on

Tell me how they feel.

Is it as easy as you thought it was?

Have you finally realized they

Are concrete slippers?

How far have you made it in that mile?

Not far, obviously

That’s okay though

I never thought you’d make it that far

So don’t tell me you know

That you understand how I feel

Because until you deal with all that I have

Until you have felt the pain I have

Until you realize that not all

Is how you see it

Until you can look me in the eye

And without pity say you understand

Then don’t even bother trying

I am more then some broken mess

I am strong because I have watched

My dreams die away one by one

I have realized that I am not invincible

So when I say that I’m not fine

That I am in pain

Don’t treat it like a joke

Just because you can’t see the source

Doesn’t mean it isn’t real

You have no idea what this has done to me

How twisted my view is

But do me a favor

Don’t tell you’ve been there

Don’t tell me it gets better

Don’t tell me you understand

Because, Darling, we both know you don’t
