Judas: A Friend of us allA Poem by Duncan Brown
Manchester Free Trade Hall The faithful heard a fateful
call “Judas.” That friend of us
all
Faith is that what we keep Treachery is that we weep That unjust friend of sleep
“I don’t believe you Turn the frgging volume up Like a Rolling Stone” Born in darkness and of scorn Out of such dramatic
midwifery History has a shamed nativity
Electrified the audience
split Obvious deceivers left the
hall And True Believers heard it
all
The players sang the singers
song Watch towers came we went
along With Judas Jokerman and his
Thief
When the war really kicks in The comfort of silent
anonymity Is the shouting cowardly
option
The way out of here is so
oblique The past is forward in
another gear An’ a Buick is a better car
after a war
Forgiveness is the thing we
seek Prisoners aren’t worth the
taking Any day now ‘even Judas’ is
released. © 2017 Duncan BrownFeatured Review
