Charisma

Charisma

A Poem by Duncan Brown

The false glimmer of charisma

Casts its very leaden shadow

Heavy on the light fantastic

Light upon the heavy plastic

Deceiving others to believe

Shadows walk upon water

Believing others are convinced

By the image of appearance

Smiling on the surface mask

Preying upon the innocence

With spectacular indifference

To the consequence of office

Stolen by a smiling countenance

Charming with the cadence

But vacant on the substance

Naming names a stocking trade

Charismatics are on the make

Taking everything they can take

Before a world discovers a fake

Masquerading in the cloth

Cut from truth to fit as false

Upon the cadaver of the politic.
