Mary Mother of Mary

Mary Mother of Mary

A Poem by Duncan Brown

Mary the Mother of Mary

Writing her hymn of liberty

Attacking history’s wrongs

Scripting freedom’s unsung songs

An Eve in another garden

Her soul another dimension

Of earth written in dignity

And a warrior of fearless beauty

Her soul a friend of poetry

A heart of loving charity

A mind of constant presence

And an essay in prescient justice

The war was never ever over

While injustice was alive

The constancy of conflict

Assailed her every waking hour

Perishing young and beautiful

Robbed of life and breath

Her existence stolen by death

Just like Saint Joan in times gone by.
