Landscape In Blue

Landscape In Blue

A Poem by Duncan Brown

Amidst the wreckage and the carnage

And the broken derelict urban damage

The euphemisms of a shattered economy

Wax lyrically sweetly quite fantastically

About the wonderfulness of a percentage

On a graph of increasing social aspiration

Existing nowhere ‘cept in the imagination

Of the architects of so much ruination

Visited on so many of the population

Beyond the choice of their existence

Reinforced by the financial expedience

Of savants in the art of economic deception

Trying to recover from their incompetence

By threatening to deliver us by their genius

And by dint of their managerial insouciance

To another miracle of growth by stealth

That robs the population of its wealth

And several kinds of increasing vexation

Rendering it to poverty and degradation

Brought upon by the sheer indifference

Of masters in the art of extreme manipulation

Saving themselves by blaming the nation

For every inadequacy of their creation

So sublimely unaware of the consequence

Of the magnitude of their incompetence

And the mind numbing arrogant deception

Inflicted on the populace by the existence

Of an upper case of self styled potentates

Gazing down on those they regard as lower

Creatures in the scheme of their ambition

To wreck a world by greed and indifference

And the arrogant insolence of omnipotence

Bestowed upon themselves by the expedience

Of insulating themselves from the experience

From anger fuelled by suffering consequence

By those who seek their common deliverance

From the schemes and plans of insignificance

To the clamouring suffering of humanity.
