Sunburn

Sunburn

A Poem by Breezie Kae

Nothing brings excitement anymore,
pretending to be having as much fun as everyone else.

You show up, and I hate how my heart flutters;
searching for escape, but there is none here,
maybe intoxication so I won't stand so still.

Then you leave, and the entire year flashes before my eyes;
this isn't a celebration,
this is a eulogy.

As life passes through, it's like a game of spin the bottle,
it never lands where you want it to.

So, oh, to summer nights,
kick off the warm months with a fresh tan.
But this is not freedom,
this is a headache and this is denial.

This isn't a tan,
it's a sunburn.

I really enjoyed this, the whole metaphor with the tan and sunburn, very slick ;)
And this is a different kind of topic, I like it and I can relate to it.. time flies, and you come to realize what have I been doing??
Hah it happens, great poem.
