Sweet Misery

Sweet Misery

A Poem by Breezie Kae

Your eyes were a picture of a sad expectation,

your eyes were a melody that’s already through.

But somehow I feel when you walk in the room,

that this minty expression is a feeling of you.

Hallelujah,

hallelu.

Sweet, sweet, sweet misery,

every time you look at me,

and it’s plain to see;

that this is so beautiful,

the pain that you give to me,

so bring it on to me,

just bring it on to me.

I sift through the darkness, I’m addicted to pain,

and somehow the feelings are always the same.

But can’t you see that this is beautiful,

the way that this misery can make me feel whole.

Hallelujah,

hallelu.

Sweet, sweet, sweet misery,

every time you look at me,

and it’s plain to see;

that this is so beautiful,

the pain that you give to me,

so bring it on to me,

just bring it on to me.

I’ll never sing hallelujah again,

I’ll never sing again.

Sweet, sweet, sweet misery,

every time you look at me,

and it’s plain to see;

that this is so beautiful,

the pain that you give to me,

so bring it on to me,

just bring it on to me.

its a touching song, this one! there is a discernible backdrop of love and loss, blanketed under defiance, anguish and anger that runs through this verse. it reminded me of my favorite lines from one of my favorite song, iris - "when everything feels like the movies, you bleed just to know you're alive"; your verse has that quality too - "it's plain to see; that this is so beautiful, the pain that you give me". it seems to me, as a reader, like it found its genesis in a dark place, a time of intense pain, or heartbreak or disillusionment. the repeated stanza adds to the impact and power of the song, in my opinion. it's subtle, understated and mellow in expression and yet, exceedingly moving in impact!! loved it!
