In The Rough

In The Rough

A Poem by Breezie Kae

You’d think the sky would open,

but one thing you’ve learned;

nothing’s ever easy.

Give up your beaten armor,

you’ll never make it too far

weighed down,

and try to make it past

the calluses and scars.

You are a diamond

in the rough of this night,

but this will someday

be your past, and it will all be alright.

You’d think that tears would fall now,

but one thing you’ve learned;

sacrifice is for the best.

Don’t be afraid of falling;

pick yourself up again,

be strong.

But don’t you dare forget

the calluses and scars.

You are a diamond

in the rough of this night,

but this will someday

be your past, and it will all be alright.

Every time I hear “your words are so true,”

every time I feel it’s meant to follow through.

Every time I listen to another song,

and imagine my words in the ears

of another diamond

in the rough of this night,

but this will someday

be your past, and it will all be alright.
