Not a SestinaA Poem by Breezie KaeWritten during sophomore year. Another poem that is barely not a sestina.
The future is blinding, they say; caught up enough for false hope, hopeful enough to cling to life. Full of life, and you’re deadly. And in present day you’re caged - this thing called “fate” betrayed you. You live for nothing but sunrise; say peace, and wish life away. Caged in shadows that you made, hope shrivels and you turn away. Deadly, you kill yourself again tonight. Life clings to you this time. Life is where you venture now. You stumble today, tomorrow a daze. Deadly thoughts block out your sunshine. Say a prayer and take a step; hope that you don’t feel it. Caged, you inject yourself with misery. Caged as the sun rises again; life sends you these bittersweet surprises. Hope just won’t leave this morning; you’re bruised and you can’t escape. Say that eye won’t meet vein - deadly and tied to this hope. Deadly is water, deadly is fire; caged long enough to catch flame. Say there’s a spark flickering now. Life seems to call, drowning in fate. You see raindrops dampen your sun; hope it doesn’t burn out today. Hope that it can’t be shaken. Deadly enough and shatter the world. You have a force, a supernova caged in an acre of ground. Life sucked up with gravity, waiting; say that you’re ready to fall. Caged, and the bars tremble now,
life will be waiting for you. Say that the future will blind. © 2010 Breezie KaeReviews
