Chapter 3 of Legends of Solaris: Bloodsworn Chronicles

"
Chapter 3: “CRACK! Spzzz” “GASP!” I wake up discombobulated to the sound of the crackling of wood splitting in a fireplace and my eyes jolt with the speed of a spark off some steel, my chest raises and lowers as I hyperventilate huge gasps of air. The subtle warmth of a fleece blanket has been draped over me, the touch as luxurious as I've felt since I've been here. Only two days in and already I've braved the wilderness, hypothermia, major wounds, being drugged, and now captured by someone. Or something.

I can still feel the effects of the drug inside of me but the worst of the effects seemed to have past. It’s a quaint room. Windows, a staircase that leads to a second floor, furniture fitted from wood and animal pelts, and a small wooden table with my pack, spear,my leather clothes, and a plate of bread and jerky with a canteen of water. I'm reminded of the thirst that has lingered in my mouth. Though I mustn’t drink or eat anything.

Not yet anyways. I don't have a clue what will happen to me if I step out of line. Then footsteps are heard coming down the stairs. I’m in no shape to fight or run so I silently wait with my muscles tensed as the sounds of the footsteps get louder. Then from the corner a figure appears.

Clothed in leather and iron armor the footsteps of the figure approaches me to the edge of the fleece blanket. Looking up it takes me a few seconds to realize the figure. The familiar blue eyes and long blond hair. I silently stare at her as she settles herself down on a chair.

It looks as if she's thinking, of what I do not know but I take the time to examine her. She's young, I wouldn't say no less then 15 but no older then 20, tall pointy ears that surpass that hair of hers, and those blue eyes. I hadn’t noticed it but the light that the fireplace provides makes it clear that her eyes sparkle as if embers of a fire were dancing in a azure blue sky. Like if the fireplace was reflecting her soul through her eyes. “ What’s your name?” She states as if she's trying to intimidate me.
Though I can tell she's hesitant and almost shy in the way she said it. Though the question stumps me immediately as I have no idea what my name is. “I-I don't know it.”I speak softly.

Wait something catches my mind. Did I hear that right or was that my imagination? The girl shakes her head in disapproval and stands up from the chair. Before she gets to inhale to question me further I ask, “ What, what do I look like?” Hesitance and the quivering in my voice flood the words I had just spoken.

The girl looks at me as if I must be crazy, sighs with a big huff, and exclaims, “Well, you look like a normal female Altan “ human” aside from your hair, are you ok?”

… What in the world? I check my reflection in a hand held mirror but nothing shows. Though I can touch my hair and as I examine it the reflection of the fire shines dimly but noticeably in contrast to my black hair. As if the fire was burning within every strand of my long hair. We both stare at the reflection, or lack there of me in the mirror. She shows up but I'm not there, as if I've disappeared. I look to my left and the girl asks, “Just who are you?” As we both sit there with our jaws in a state of awe. I slowly move my head to gaze into the fireplace and intently stare at the dancing flames. When a log of wood breaks apart the embers dance upon the twirling flames, and for a second I thought I saw myself.
