Chapter 2

A Chapter by XStigma

Chapter 2: “Rustle~rustle,” I catch the sound of the brushing of some bushes. It's late, about 3 o’clock. Thoughts rush into my head as I try to process what could be lurking in this forest. From what I can tell it doesn't walk on all fours, so it can only mean it’s something that walks. Still dazed I reach around for my spear. To my right I finally find the slender shaft of the spear and I take a defensive position behind a boulder. I fix a little peeping hole to the entrance of the cave so that I can see who the intruder. The light of the fire helps me catch a glimpse of a humanoid figure and I can tell it’s getting closer because of the crunching of gravel.

Then suddenly as if an eastern wind had creeped up on the shorelines of a warm beach, I had hardly noticed that the figure had slipped into my cave. I barely noticed the slightest movement from the corner of my left eye because the crack I had fitted has only about a 35 degree view range vertically. With the swiftest movement I could muster I rotate my body to the left but the sting of a pin prick catches into my left thigh.

When I check my thigh a dart tipped with a substance is stuck firmly in my thigh. The only reason why I know the dart has been laced with something is because my entire leg has gone numb within 5 seconds. My head begins to spin, my eyesight blurs, and that familiar numbing of my skin comes back to haunt my mind. I'm left recoiling into a ball as my mind slowly fades away into my head. But as the light drains from my eyes I catch the glimpse of blue eyes and blond hair holding a blowpipe in the right hand. Or maybe it was just the hallucinations of my mind.
