THE WARNING

THE WARNING

A Poem by Druscilla Morgan

Child, beware the twilight dwellers

Those whose hearts rise with the moon

Their smiling faces, teeth bared

Unknowing of care

Dried bones scarred by time

Their darkened hearts ever seeking

Ever feasting

Beware my child

They will beguile you with sweet words

And carve their name into your heart

Their eyes will draw you as to your destiny

And their touch shall etch into your skin

Their lips shall taste sweet

Yet be full of bitter poison

Beware child, ‘tis your soul they seek

To be a companion on their endless road

A witness to their sad affliction

Theirs is a heart that cannot feel

Yet never stops beating

They will drink your life essence

And claim it for their own

Beware my child, lest you become one of them

To dwell in history’s darkest shadows

Never resting nor appeasing your hunger

Nor finding the peace that haunts your immortal soul

Eternity shall be yours

And you shall be her prisoner

There is no beauty in the undead

But that which belongs to others

Now close your eyes and sleep ……..

beware of the moonlight-- and all that exists in the night.. the reader can feel the foreboding spell
being presented-felt in recognition-shifting shadows- your words capture the meaning of what it is
to be double warned of those creatures that own the darkness.. not as monsterous.. but those
lurking indivisuals taking advantage of all they come into contact with.. the metaphorical presentation
is set on a stage and character follows through with precise effect.. direct-very refined, very nice

Child, beware the twilight dwellers
Those whose hearts rise with the moon
Their smiling faces, teeth bared
Unknowing of care
Dried bones scarred by time
Their darkened hearts ever seeking
Ever feasting

Wow. I like this warning. Very dark and ominous. Very descriptive. But are they all dark? When you get a chance, check out my short story "A Walk in the Sun" or "A Passion for Perfection" (parts I and II). I think you might like them.
