Your Feeble Advice

Your Feeble Advice

A Poem by Désiré Desrosiers
"

Looking back, children are so simple, eh?

"

“They expect this in college.”

“They want this in college.”

"They do this in college.”

A few phrases to silence pre-college students

to get them to do anything.

I’ve been told this many times,

I’ve been muted along with my peers,

I’ve done whatever they said,

what they said would happen in college.

Well, where is it?

All these expectations,

all this nonsense.

Now I see.

How pitiful,

just looking back at you all.

“You’re still just a kid,

not even out of school yet.

You’ll see what the real world is.”

Well?

It's money isn't it.

Of course it is,

it always comes down to money.

What more is there?

Let me live my life,

I’ll get screwed over anyways,

even with your feeble advice.

My, my, I can feel myself becoming more and more bitter just thinking about this.
