Talk to MeA Story by DarkMindWriten in hopes of coping with my inner demons. It is a bit graphic with gore and dark content be advised.
“Talk to me” it pleads, breathing its hot breath down my neck. The night just beginning, “There isn’t anything to talk about, you know it all already. Where’s the ridicule; I’m waiting. I need to feed on sorrow and anxiety. Your subconscious was absolutely eat up with it, a meal fit for the taking.” Another whispers through the darkness, morning will not come soon enough. “Enough already, can’t you just disappear for one night? I need to sleep; I have a lot to do tomorrow.” it’s a useless thought, they’re relentless. “How does it feel to be giving your all, and still have nothing to show for your efforts? Give up you are so foolish; come join us we all will take care of you.” They all sneer baring teeth etched with blood and decaying ruminates of my subconscious thoughts. “Haven’t had enough, or are you just a maniac for pain?” another chimed in. Their voices now blending into a large mass enveloping me with it. “Do you honestly think you’ll become anything; who wants to be around the likes of you?” moving into the light their horrible misshapen bodies come into view. They use to be those who I treasured most but now horrid looking monsters take their place. Rotten blood stained teeth adorn their mouths, hollowed glazed over eyes peer into my face. Yellowish skin lazily wrapped around their bodies as disgusting shrouds, blood dripping off onto the floor forming pools around my body. They are closing in; they are going to consume me. Encircling me where there can be no escape. Please, help me. “Come now; we have always been here. You know by now; they can’t save you. No one can save you now.” It lifts my chin with a skeleton thin finger, its rotting smell enveloping my senses making my stomach flip with the rotting scent. Looking into its hollowed bloodshot eyes, it smiles
“Have you forgotten those long sleepless nights, burns across your skin, broken promises you knew would never be kept, empty words they said to ease your pain. Did it ever work? How long will you refuse us; how long do you want to suffer?” they start to cackle, my head drops back down to look at the floor again. Looking at my arms, decorated with burn marks from past talks with the said monsters. “They don’t help you, do they? The pain is only a distraction for a short while, only for you to succumb to it later. Don’t tell me you thought the light would last forever? You are foolish aren’t you?” they all giggle the roar of their voices only growing louder with each passing moment. Their stench is making it harder to breathe now, an involuntary shiver working its way down my spine. I draw my body closer in, hugging my knees to my chest. I am a victim of their constant badgering, what makes it worse is that they are manifestations of my own mind. I am their lowly prisoner, losing grip quickly as the hour's pass. Their voices cease, it picks my face back up to look back into its eyes. It’s nausea inducing face in full view, “Come now look me in the eye, you should be used to seeing my repulsive face by now. I have been the monster you’ve seen in the mirror for the past five years now. I’ve consumed your very existence and still you deny me? You must be sick for pain, go on make another burn on your skin but you can’t escape me. You can mark every inch of your skin but you still will see my face in the mirror. You can’t escape my grasp; your light has been snuffed out. Darkness is your only friend.” I stare back into its eyes, it peering into the very core of my being. “Spineless, you have nothing left.” It smiles at me. It’s sticky hand touching my cheek, a tear escapes my eye falling onto its skin. “I thought you were all drained out by now.” It wipes the tear away, smiling as it does so. “Weaker than ever; how can you possibly walk forward when you can’t even look your own creation in the face? I am you, I’m the manifestation of yourself that you created. I am your monster. You can’t run away from yourself. Why do you try so hard; you know how it always ends.” My heart races and tears fall freely from my eyes; I bring my hands up to shield my face from them. “Why do you try to hide? We are everywhere.” Light begins to pour into every inch of the surrounding scenery. “Morning approaches, our time has been spent for now.” They start crawling back into the dark hovels surrounding world farther away from me. It turns back to look at me again, “Until tonight, and next time talk to me…” it whispers into the void that so many disgusting creatures once inhabited for the night. I’m left alone, “Time to begin the day again, how much more can I take?” I look down at my arms, three new burns inhabit what free space was left. “How much longer can I hide?” pain surges itself through my body as I begin to get up; “as long as it takes…” it whispers again its voice faint but clearly heard cascading through my ears, causing goosebumps to appear on my skin “that’s right, talk to me.” © 2017 DarkMindAuthor's Note
