Night Swallows Time (Some Days Are Apprehensive of Everything)

Night Swallows Time (Some Days Are Apprehensive of Everything)

A Poem by Sweet & Tender Hooligan
"

We're all born unreligious and nonpolitical. From the moment we're born vultures stalk our free minds and we're taught to give into the world.

"
Submerged minds everyone's to blame
As long as you do your best,
You'll belong to nothing but the dark sea.
Sleeping our lives away we're all so strange,
People are just people yet hate is sadly as old as mankind.
Night seems to swallow time.

Deep down in a lonely place, everything feels like a test.
Deceived by the tide what is past is past and yet smothers us all.
The tide sweeps up love and leaves it stranded on the edge of hate.

We're all merely darker than shadows,
Oceans of tears keep us safely apart.
Humanity outshone by animals, death lives inside of us all.
What kills someone, lives in someone else - it's in all of us.
When it's all too much I'm reminded we're all someone else's demon,
Unearthing each and every pain blocks the last pain out.

Constant pendulum of trust, values erode
It is without a doubt a greedy world. Pound for pound it's a shame
But money teaches us to wolf the days down.

No-one is interested in why the seasons wage wars;
Shades of courageous winter invade fearless summer,
Spring cries, afraid of everything and autumn wishes to disappear.
Memories in puddles and pictures taken from dreams are histories sludge.
Love is a ghost afraid of answers, awkward people ask awkward questions.
Shattered minds reliant on things not there toughen up in the will of the world.

Unkind oceans and sorrowful skies of borrowed time keep us apart
Dreams joined by the sky bring us back together,
Only to be drowned by good intentions.

Beautiful, as usual. Your writing never ceases to amaze and leave me with a deep feeling that I cannot describe. I hope you realize how truly gifted you are. Wonderful work, and this line stood out the most for me:

"What kills someone, lives in someone else - it's in all of us."

Thought provoking and infinitely sad in a way. I always look forward to your work!

Such a lonely striking piece. Reminds me of how violent and lonely the sea/ocean is.

Incredible writing.
Not only are you a great writer, but also so a philosopher.

Gosh, I'm so speechless with this one! This is really good! I love it. You've given us, readers, so much to think about and your messages are so clear. You have a way of looking into life in a unique way! I believe these lines are so powerful:

"We're all merely darker than shadows,
Oceans of tears keep us safely apart.
Humanity outshone by animals, death lives inside of us all.
What kills someone, lives in someone else - it's in all of us.
When it's all too much I'm reminded we're all someone else's demon,
Unearthing each and every pain blocks the last pain out"

Your writing is very inspiring and motivating! Thank you for sharing!

Filled with meaningful metaphors for society...and I do believe this culture is strange, if one steps away from its center and gives a good look at it, that is what I feel like I am doing as I read your poem.
