Poems Are Not Leaves Torn From Branches

Poems Are Not Leaves Torn From Branches

A Poem by Sweet & Tender Hooligan
"

This one is dedicated to plagiarists. Copying bands and other poets doesn't make you a poet.

"
The things you say and do make me feel cynical,
The things you don't say or don't do make me confused.

Fake your words and dress up your life,
Soulless thieves steal pieces of soul like candy from a store.
Fake dreams have turned your world into a dolls house honey.

What's going to happen when the clouds part,
What's going to happen to the way things were?

Sometimes like a puddle I just want to disappear.

You can take my words and my passions
But when you've taken someone else's soul,
That doesn't give you a soul.

Wasted youth is like leaves torn from branches,
A lost cause beaten but not yet defeated.

Paths that can't be taken, footprints that just disappear.

You cover lies with flowers. Poems don't grow on tree's.
You can't pluck poems out of the ground like flowers.

Little did I know that someone to my knowledge could be so different?
Who'd have thought you would become so hateful?
Little difference it makes but how you can live with yourself?

Is it little any wonder why people are so cruel,
When the world is so cruel it makes people cruel.

Snow covered self absorbed dreams don't last,
You want to be me on the other side of the glass.
You want to be someone else
But you should look deep in the mirror.

I enjoyed this very much. It makes me think about the duplicitous acts of some and the delusional beliefs of others. As far as the technique, I love how you reuse words (e.g. "fake," "flowers," "cruel," etc.). For some reason, when poets do this, it always helps me find a cadence and voice by which to read the piece.

Great inspiration ~ even though it came from a place of injustice ~ stealing is a form of envy but the thief's words will never match the author's raw talent

"What's going to happen when the clouds part"

This line was so powerful! I think we all know when the clouds part, what happens, the storm rages washing away all of the lies and cover-ups, exposing the truth.

"You can take my words and my passions
But when you've taken someone else's soul,
That doesn't give you a soul."

My favorite line! An amazing piece, truly!
