The Heart Only Knows Defeat

The Heart Only Knows Defeat

A Poem by Sweet & Tender Hooligan
"

Human spirit endures and prevails even though sometimes some of our actions can seem inhuman.

"
Stars appear and reappear
like tears upon atlases and calendars.
Buried deep in the hearts darkest chambers,
hate is all that sets us apart from shadows.
True voice can be found in the depth of struggle,
the heart only knows defeat but keeps fighting.
The moon cradled by cloud
binds the broken face of time.
Struggling to breathe in this decade.
All my hope as cowered into a vulgar reflection,
silently my braver silhouette shys away.
There's a crack in the mirror
that mirrors you, mirroring me.
He mirrors her, she mirrors him.
You're what keeps me alive,
you're what kills me.
We're what destroys the world.
Human error is human truth.
The heart can only be found in the dark,
learn to blend in if you want to be treated human.

Good job. Your titles really sound like those poems that you hear in an english class and we all say, "Ugh not again...." but then we read it and we all secretly like it. Good job on this one. Ending the poem with the picture helped keep the entire intention secret until the very last second -- nice technique. I also liked the way you spaced your stanzas.

This is beautiful. I believe I've said this before, but I really do love your work. Its always so rich and full, never "simple", yet always easy to understand.

I loved this line: "True voice can be found in the depth of struggle,
the heart only knows defeat but keeps fighting."

and this one: "Struggling to breathe in this decade.
All my hope as cowered into a vulgar reflection,
silently my braver silhouette shys away."

Amazing work and so very true.

A great poem love, truly!
I love the philosophical quality to this one, the world is not perfect! Shattered refelcetions sometimes bring out truths!
