Be Yourself, Become Cultured and Then Escape.A Poem by Sweet & Tender HooliganInspired by Badlands and The Outsiders. The image is of Martin Sheen as Kit in Badlands, imitating a scarecrow. Like a ghost stranded in the wrong time, it's impossible to feel like you belong.Walking into shadows of the past, A ghost stranded in a dead land. Stuck on the wrong side of a mirror, Where empty minds mean everything And nothing means anything any more. We're free. We become cultured. Then we die. I'm James Dean, I'm dead. Loved but forgotten. Nothing means nothing to me. Between worlds. Where does love come from and where does it go? I love you but I'm gonna disappear like the sun behind clouds. I've ached for you but I've nothing left but what's missed. Just like God I crucify and sacrifice you. Sleep. Wake. Cry. Unbelong. Sleep. Be yourself. Become cultured and cluttered. Half asleep. Awake in the wrong time and dead. Between life's. The heart breaks but the spirit lasts. Time digs down deep to the root, Memory digs deeper down into the heart. Digging myself out only to feel weighed down. Trapped, cultured and dead. I'm a poet, I'm a ghost. I love but remember too much. Everything is ugly, nothing is beautiful any more. Feeling is not losing control. What fails exists and what works doesn't exist. Never unexpect the unexpected, love corrupts the soul. Clinging to a knife like belief. There's always one day But sometimes all there is, is all there is. © 2010 Sweet & Tender HooliganAuthor's Note
