Still Within the Same Old WallsA Poem by Sweet & Tender HooliganGreatly inspired by James Dean, The Smiths and my childhood. Written December 2009. Image: Edward Hopper.
The further you go, the road is unlit
Please show me how to forget, Please show me the way forward. There's a side of me that looks away and doesn't show. The tree becomes bare again after every dream leaves It hurts me to treat you this way, It pains me to see you hurt like I was. Emptiness fades and reappears Creating, breaking and rebuilding walls around ourselves. Words hide what you really want to express, Awake beneath tired walls in another land. The walls around our souls Never feel like home, Never felt at home Walls around my self keep the world out. People wonder how can I still be in the same old house? I stay awake all night and dream all day, and I sometimes breathe too Yet I wonder to myself how can I leave these walls behind? Echoes of lonely childhood days Show you how not to be yourself, Please show me how to accept myself. Silent tears drowning in time blur the way forward, All day long I dream and sometimes I live. Please show me the way forward I hope it works out your way, I don't deserve love. Loved ones come and go, It's always the way. © 2010 Sweet & Tender HooliganAuthor's Note
