PROLOGUE

A Chapter by DrollCat

November had brought with it winter and now, at Foster Lake, Hector Beno ran for his life. Cold Air tore down his throat and burned his lungs as he ran through the dense, dead wood. His screams echoed through the trees and leaves covered hills as another set of footfalls, fast and undeterred, followed him. A rough squeal of delight killed Hector's scream as it chased him. "Gaven! Bill! Peter! Someone! Help me!" He screamed as he felt his body burn. Even with adrenaline, his legs cramped, his chest heaved, and his eyes itched from the dryness. Hector shot an arm out, caught a thin pine and used it to spin himself in the opposite direction, sprinting back the way he-.

There was nothing behind him. Whatever was chasing him was gone. His spine crawled with fear as his eyes darted left and right. "W-where is it? I-it was so fast!" He slowed down to a stop, turning and searching.

The high-pitched, guttural squeal made him clench his teeth.

The fast footfalls were on him before he could shift his body weight
