The Giant CrucifixA Story by D DrivaExploring religion and mystery
I was there with other faithfuls at Olo. We all strained our eyes,
defying the fierce rays of the sun as the giant cross would be lifted, from where it will fight the Antichrist: to save us and the world. A million eyes shot up towards the sky as the heavy ropes began to climb. The choir immaculately dressed for the occasion intoned THE INVOCATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. The people joined their voices , and the pitch rose with the giant cross. THEN something happened! The cost and the image of the wounded Christ had come into view. Even from the spot under a cashew tee where I stood, I could see the crown of thorns and the blood gushing from an eye. A baby had let out a sharp ringing cry from a far distance. Another child screamed out loudly as the terror spread over. The haunting image of Christ as it rose had sent ripples of fear and had frightened the little ones. I saw the frenzied flights of women escaping the scene with their babies fastened to their bosom. A dreadful panic from nowhere gripped the congregation and legs began to pound the muddy earth in sudden retreat.... What is chasing them? Before 2pm, the giant crucifix had been stationed and we the worshipers beheld the glorious sight from miles away. That night, I had a terrible nightmare where the giant crucifix was moving. The crucified Christ has disengaged His big bold hands from the nail trappings and was trying to wrap me up. I was running and shouting before I woke up. The following morning, I bundled my little belongings and set them on my head. It was still dark as morning had not fully come. On reaching the bus stand what I saw shook my bones. A thousand travellers and more had already converged. Whether they were leaving or running I could not tell. But the expressions on their faces were similar to mine. The ceremony of the giant crucifix was much more than what our little heads could comprehend. © 2016 D DrivaAuthor's Note
